This series is part of the project “Preservation of Libraries and Archives in Iraq: Building Capacity for Preventive Conservation,” implemented by HERITΛGE (The Heritage Management Organization) in collaboration with TARII (The Academic Research Institute in Iraq).
The webinar series complements the project’s training activities by providing additional expertise on key topics related to the preservation of documentary heritage. While the core training is designed for selected participants in the project, the webinars are open to a wider public audience.
Our next webinar 27 April 2026, is titled:
“Preventive Conservation of Archival Photographic Collections: Reality and Aspiration”
This webinar aims to highlight the importance of archival photographic collections as an essential part of the cultural and archival memory of societies, and to discuss ways of preserving, managing, and making them accessible to researchers and the public. It also seeks to draw on the speakers’ specialised experience in the preservation of archival collections and projects, while examining the main challenges facing the preventive conservation of this type of material. The event further aims to present practical insights and recommendations that may contribute to strengthening the protection and sustainability of these collections within cultural institutions.

• Brogdon-Grantham, Shannon - Photograph and Paper Conservator
• Basil Al-Rawi - An Irish-Iraqi multidisciplinary artist working with photography, moving image, sculpture, and immersive technologies
• Debra Hess Norris - Chair of the Department of Art Conservation at the University of Delaware (UD) and Professor of Photograph Conservation.
• Dr. Ola Seif - Served as Curator of the Photography Collection at the American University in Cairo
