Our seventh webinar is titled “Changing Heritage”
It focuses on Professor Francesco Bandarin’s most recent book Changing Heritage. Drawing on many years of experience working in senior positions at UNESCO, Professor Bandarin will discuss threats to heritage resulting from social and economic developments, political pressures, and unresolved historical issues.
Speaker:
Professor Francesco Bandarin is an Architect and Urban Planner, specialising in Urban Conservation. He holds degrees in Architecture (IUAV Venice) and City and Regional Planning (UC Berkeley). From 2000 to 2010 he was Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and Secretary of the World Heritage Convention. From 2010 to 2018 he served as Assistant Director General of UNESCO for Culture.
He is a Senior Advisor to the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, a member of the Advisory Council of the Smithsonian Centre for Folklife and Cultural Heritage and of the Managing Board of the Santagata Foundation for the Economy of Culture (Turin, Italy). He is also a founder and member of OUR WORLD HERITAGE. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Springer Series on Creativity Culture and the City. He consults for governments and heritage projects in different parts of the world.
